Summer Term message from Mrs Eaves:
Welcome back to school following our lovely two week half term break! I hope you are all feeling refreshed and ready for our last half term together in year one.
The Phonics Screener Check for Year One takes place week commencing 10th June. Please continue to practice the Phonics screener words which have been sent home weekly over the last half tern in preparation for this. If you have any questions regarding these, please do not hesitate and come and see me.
This half term in Science we will be learning all about Animals, your child will learn that animals, including humans, can be sorted into six groups: amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals and reptiles. They will learn that different animal groups have similar and different body parts and the purposes of these body parts. They will sort animals into the six animal groups based on characteristics. Linked to our Science Topic we will be visiting Blackpool Zoo to observe and learn more interesting facts about the six animal groups.
In maths we will be learning about money, position and direction and time.
I am looking forward to our Olympic week in school, which takes place week commencing 24th June. All children will have the opportunity to take part in new sports and will learn about the Olympic Games, being held this year in Paris.
Please have a look at the fridge words linked below. These words are based on the vocabulary we are exploring within our topic and science lessons. How many of these can you learn?
Please take a look at the documents below so you know exactly what we will be learning this term.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask - I am happy to help!

Moon art on display in the Gallery!
Posted: Feb 16, 2024 by: Lindsay Walton (L.Walton) on: Year 1 Blog
Our amazing artwork has been chosen to be on display in the Lytham Heritage Art display during February. This work was inspired by our Moon Week and involved us looking closely at the moon and using our printing and colour mixing skills to create an atmospheric image of the surface of the moon. Eddie's work was chosen as a prize winner - well done!!
