Summer Term message from Mrs Eaves:

Welcome back to school following our lovely two week half term break! I hope you are all feeling refreshed and ready for our last half term together in year one.

The Phonics Screener Check for Year One takes place week commencing 10th June.  Please continue to practice the Phonics screener words which have been sent home weekly over the last half tern in preparation for this.  If you have any questions regarding these, please do not hesitate and come and see me.

This half term in Science we will be learning all about Animals,  your child will learn that animals, including humans, can be sorted into six groups: amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals and reptiles. They will learn that different animal groups have similar and different body parts and the purposes of these body parts. They will sort animals into the six animal groups based on characteristics. Linked to our Science Topic we will be visiting Blackpool Zoo to observe and learn more interesting facts about the six animal groups.

In maths we will be learning about money, position and direction and time.

I am looking forward to our Olympic week in school, which takes place week commencing 24th June. All children will have the opportunity to take part in new sports and will learn about the Olympic Games, being held this year in Paris.

Please have a look at the fridge words linked below. These words are based on the vocabulary we are exploring within our topic and science lessons. How many of these can you learn?

Please take a look at the documents below so you know exactly what we will be learning this term.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask - I am happy to help!

World Book Day 2024

Posted: Mar 8, 2024 by: year1 teacher (K.Eaves) on: Year 1 Blog

What an incredible day at school. The children all looked amazing! They enjoyed learning all about the author Michael Rosen and enjoyed listening to some of his stories and very funny poems (take a look at 'Chocolate Cake').  They voted for their favourite story, from 'Not so little Red Riding Hood', We're going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Goldilocks and the Three Crocodiles', all by the author Michael Rosen.   We're Going on a Bear Hunt came in first place, a clear winner. Then in the afternoon our grown ups joined us and shared lots of stories.  The children had a wonderful time.
