Welcome to Our Spring Term in Year One!
We hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready for an exciting Spring Term ahead!
The classroom is already full of smiles, energy and enthusiasm, and we can’t wait to see how much the children grow over the next few months. This term is always a busy and important one in Year One. We will be continuing to build on our phonics knowledge, developing our writing skills, exploring new maths concepts and enjoying lots of creative learning across the curriculum. The children always make fantastic progress at this time of year — it’s amazing to see their confidence blossom!
Reading at Home – Every Day Matters!
A gentle reminder about the importance of reading at home every single day. Just 5–10 minutes daily makes a huge difference. Regular reading helps your child to:
Build fluency and confidence
Recognise sounds quickly
Blend words more smoothly
Develop understanding and expression
As you know, the children will take part in the Phonics Screening Check in June. This is a short, simple check to see how well they can use their phonics skills to read words. The very best way to prepare is through consistent, relaxed practice at home. Little and often truly is the key!
When reading together, please encourage your child to:
Sound out carefully
Blend the sounds smoothly
Re-read the word if it doesn’t sound quite right
Talk about what the word means
Most importantly, keep reading! Make it positive and enjoyable — praise their effort and celebrate their progress!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are really looking forward to a fantastic Spring Term full of learning, laughter and shining achievements! Let's make it a brilliant one!
